Fuchsia Cultivation
On purchase of plants grow on until the roots can be seen emerging from the bottom of the pot, then move into the next size pot, never more than 1” larger. A fuchsia needs light airy compost, we recommend Shamrock Professional Potting compost blended to our own recipe that is available from the nursery priced @ £7.00 per 75 litre bag.
Use liquid fertiliser every time you water to maintain growth, first feed with a high Nitrogen food to boost growth. Balanced food should be applied in April and changing to high Potash feed in July, then alternate with high Nitrogen to encourage new growth for repeat flowering in September. All feeding should be applied at half rate (half teaspoon to two gallons of water). Plant food is available @ £3.50 per kilo specially manufactured for us. Plants require the ends to be pinched out to produce better shaped plants, every one or two leaf joints of growth, and will give a good display in only four pinches. Remember to allow 6 weeks for single flowered cultivars, and 10 weeks for double flowered cultivars to bloom.
